CONGREGATION HEALTH

On this page we will provide links and resources to help your congregation maintain it's health and growth.

A good place to start is to assess where the congregation is on the bell curve.
For a description of the phases on the life cycle click on this page

If you are interested in having a coach walk your congregation through a life-cycle assessment this will give you an idea of the process.

INCLINE
If your congregation is on the incline side of the bell curve, and you need to revisit a visioning process. Here are some resources for a visioning process. You might also consider a Ministry Action Plan (MAP) process.

Another great resource for congregations on incline is Natural Church Development (NCD). An NCD assessment measures your congregation against eight qualities characteristics of a healthy church. This objective assessment will identify a congregations strengths and weaknesses. If you would like to know more about NCD and you think this would help your church, this is what the process looks like: Introduction to NCD

RECLINE AND EARLY DECLINE

For a description of this stage of the life cycle see this page.

A congregation in this stage of their life cycle will require a coach to journey with them to re-claim the incline side of the life cycle. This is what the journey will look like and what it will cost you in terms of time and money. Click here

The first step to redevelopment is to take the Readiness For Redevelopment Assessment.

For more information about the process you can call the Regional Office at 780-672-0772.

DECLINE

For a description of this stage of the life cycle see this page.

A congregation in this stage of their life cycle will require deep change. Deep change will create a lot of anxiety in the congregation. You are advised to engage the services of a coach to help keep the leadership and congregation on course through this anxious journey. Here is what the process looks like and what it will cost you in time and money (Decline PPT).

CHURCH PLANTER ASSESSMENT
The Canadian Church of God Ministries takes advantage of Church Planter Assessment Centre to determine readiness to plant. A preliminary assessment will be done with Regional Office Staff along with the use of outside assessments.

CONGREGATION IN CONFLICT

Conflict is natural normal and neutral. Conflict is a part of life. Conflict was a part of the New Testament Church. Every pastor and church board would do well to educate themselves on the dynamics of conflict.

Here are some book resources:

Jim Van Yperen, Making Peace, Moody Press 2002
Speed B Leas, Discover Your Conflict Management Style, Alban Institute 2002
Ken Sande, The Peacemaker, Baker Books 2002
Peter L Steinke, Congregational Leadership in Anxious Times, Alban Institute

Here are some agencies or websites to check out:

PEACEMAKER MINISTRIES: Ken Sande and The Slippery Slope http://www.peacemaker.net

RESTORING THE CHURCH: http://restoringthechurch.org

The Canadian Church of God Ministries will help a congregation in assessing if their conflict is normal, acute or chronic. Once the assessment is completed, and if the conflict is deemed acute or chronic appropriate referrals will be made to organizations or persons trained in conflict management.
